Grand Cru
Kitterlé
Locality : Guebwiller
Presentation
At the entrance to the Launch valley, to the north of
Guebwiller, the Kitterlé forms the lower steep spur important
Unterlinger foothill, and so its aspect varies from southeast
to south and to southwest. Estremely well sheltered from
northerly winds, it enjoys exceptional sunshine, and occupies
a unique site in Alsace.
Soil
Its subsoil consists of Middle Buntsanstein : coarse Vosges
sandstone and the overlying quartzite conglomerate. Towards
the summit, the site just compromises a few layers of
the clay- and mica-rich Upper Buntsandstein. At its western
extremity, the Vosges main fault makes contact with the
basement : Carboniferous volcanic grauwacke- sandstones,
still a siliceous soil.
Particularity
The light sandy soil held back by immense dry stone walls
permits only a limited yield, which favourises a great
concentration of flavours and gives the wines exceptional
ageing potential.
Altitude: 270 to 360 m - Surface: 25,79
