Alsace Grands Crus wines
According to the decree of 17 december
1992, to be entitled to the "Appellation d'Origine
Contrôlée Alsace Grand Cru", a wine must come from
a strictly defined vineyard within the overall production
area for Alsace wines. Experts appointed by the INAO (Institut
National des Appellations d'Origine des vins eaux-de-vie)
have defined a total of 50 strictly-delimited regions
of production, which are protected by rigorous legislation.
Only 4 grape varieties are authorised for production of
AOC Alsace Grand Cru wines: Riesling, Gewurztraminer,
Tokay Pinot Gris and Muscat d'Alsace.
The château is also a producer
of the late harvested wines: "Vendanges Tardives"
and "Sélection de Grains Nobles" which
are among the best wines in the world.
